Every year during Advent, Living Saviour Lutheran Church offers a devotional series to help prepare us for the coming of the Christ child; to be announced in November 2021.
Advent is the first season of the Church year, a 4 week period leading up to Christmas Day, and the 12 days of Christmas which ends on Epiphany Day, January 6.
Advent means “appearing” and we hear many different readings each year, but always in the same order, the first Sunday about the end of time when Christ will come again. The second and third Sunday are about John the Baptist who points out the Christ to the world; and finally on the fourth Sunday we hear from and about Mary. Then we are ready to welcome the Christ child on Christmas Eve.
We light the candles of the Advent wreath each week in worship, and prepare for Christ’s appearing. You too can have a simple wreath at home, with battery candles or real ones, and can light one each week.
Disciples learn, read scripture, pray, prepare for worship and for Christ’s coming again. I invite you to spend some time this Advent preparing your heart, home, life, for the coming again of Christ.
